The drought continued in California during the 2021 growing season. While yields were slightly reduced, there were no major heat spikes during the growing season allowing the small berried clusters to mature slowly and evenly, developing depth of flavors, balanced acidity and great tannin structure. Bud break occurred the first couple of weeks in April, we saw fifty-percent veraison by early August and harvested the majority of the vineyard after the autumn equinox. An exceptional year for consistency and quality, offering elegant and sophisticated final flavors in the wines.
A kaleidoscopic array of aromas capture the attention. Unending layers of black cherry, currant, raspberry and intense violet intermingle with notes of crushed rock, apricot and pencil lead. Lavender, black cardamom and new suede add a dynamic interplay of savory qualities. The palate is oozing with black and purple fruits and the hallmark minerality races across the tongue. The opulent flavors are supported by mouth-watering acidity and fine tannins. Sophisticated, complex, seamless. This wine is just beginning to reveal its elegance and complexity. A wine for the ages.
